Fresh off the plane from Kenya (well maybe not fresh), Dr. Ann Messer was honored by the Austin, Texas Chapter of United Nations Association. Ann was awarded the Inspire Humanitarian Award for her work providing practical medical education and culturally sensitive medical care to neglected communities around the world.
Dr. Messer accepted the award at UNA-Austin’s 74th annual United Nations Day celebration on October 23rd at the Oasis on Lake Travis. The UN Association presents the Inspire Humanitarian Award to individuals or organizations who positively impact society either locally or globally through their professional or advocacy skills. Awards are presented to those organizations/individuals whose work directly correlates with one or more of
the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. The Mission of One Good Turn, to provide practical medical education and culturally sensitive medical care to neglected communities worldwide, aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well Being. During her acceptance, Dr. Messer spoke about the importance of development work that is both practical and sustainable.
In addition to the presentation of the Inspire Humanitarian Award, UNA-Austin’s event featured a Welcome Note from UNA Austin President Aditi Joshi and a Keynote from Claire McCarthy, Consul General of Ireland in Austin.
